Is The Stock Market a Safe Play?

By Timmy Morre

Most financial advisors consider the stock market a safe and profitable way to invest your money. Is it really? Is it true that the stock market is a safe place to put your money? Should you be participating in it?

If you look at the long term the answer would appear to be yes. Over the long term stocks do tend to go up a lot more then they go down. Maybe that is why one of the most common stock tips out there is to diversify between different stocks and then hold onto them for the long term.

Stocks can be pretty solid and safe if you buy the right companies. Putting money into stocks is kind of like putting money into a business as an investment. If you buy the right business with the best business plans then your odds of losing money are actually very low. On the other hand if you invest into a failing business and hope that it turns itself around then your odds of losing money skyrocket.

As long as you are doing your research and investing into strong companies then over the long term it should be profitable.

One other thing to think about are the dividends. There are a lot of companies that pay out a nice dividend and if you hold onto the company for a long enough time period they can even pay for themselves.

Once the dividends pay for the stock they can be just another source of passive income for you. The dividends also tend to increase over time as the company grows.

So are stocks safe to invest into? Well there is risk in every investment. Stocks could always crash today and not come back for years. However as long as you are investing into solid companies that is unlikely to happen to you.
